Seven Ranges Scout Reservation
is located in Carroll County, Southwest of Minerva in Kensington, Ohio. The
reservation encompasses over 900 acres, situated among the rolling hills, grassy meadows
and lush woods of this remote part of Ohio in the center of Buckeye Council. The Summer
Camp Program at Seven Ranges is designed to provide the adventure, fun and activities that
are promised to every boy that joins Scouting. While at camp, Scouts have the opportunity
to put into action the skills that they have practiced year-round within your unit
program.
SummerCamp:
Watersports: Your week at Seven Ranges will start
out with a swim in Lake Donahey. The 40 acre lake is the focal point of our camp, and most
activities are centered around the lake. In addition to swimming, there is a variety of
other watersports available. Row boats, canoes and sailboats can enhance your camp
experience.
Field Sports: Ever desire to shoot a rifle
or draw a bow and arrow? This is the place for you. Our field sports area is ready to
train you whether it's your first time firing a gun or you are an expert marksman.
Contests are held during the week, including the Turkey Shoot and the Scoutmaster's Shoot.
Don't forget the times before guns existed either. The archery range offers a primitive
challenge as the Indians did years ago. Bring your whole patrol to the range to see who is
the best shot.
Scoutcraft: Test your true Scouting skills trying
to cross our monkey bridge over the creek. Fine tune these skills working with knives and
axes and earn your Totin' Chip Card, or build a campfire without using a match or lighter.
Scaroyadii Trail: If you are over 14 years old,
then keep on reading about an adventure just for you. The Scaroyadii Trail was created as
a link between our two council camps, seven ranges and Camp McKinley. This 18 mile trail
takes you through scenic Carroll and Columbiana counties. Bring your full size backpack
with you, and we will load you up with all the food and cooking gear for this backpack
trip. Get first hand experience living from your pack while out on the trail. Once you
arrive at Camp McKinley, a variety of challenging activities will be offered. How about
scaling the cliffs learning rock climbing skills?. When it is all over, relax and unwind
in the swimming pool. This program will be offered only during certain weeks, so check
ahead.
Horsemanship Program: New to Seven Ranges in 1999
is the horsemanship program. in cooperation with neighboring Wolf Den Stables,
Horsemanship Merit Badge will be available to scouts 14 and over. learn proper horse care
and riding techniques while having fun riding throughout the area. Check ahead for
availability.
Handicraft: Make yourself some souvenirs to
remember your week at camp. Create a belt, knife holster or leather moccasins. Weave a
basket or stool. The possibilities are endless if you have a creative mind.
Pipestone: The Buckeye Council's Pipestone Award
is unique in Scouting. For seventy five years scouts of our Council camps have earned the
right to wear this venerable token. To this very day the Pipestone comes to us through our
brother, the Indian, in a spot which he and his ancestors hallow in far away Minnesota. It
is brought to the earth by his hands alone. No where else can it be earned, other than at
Seven Ranges Scout Reservation. The Scouts who wear the Pipestone prize it highly. Its
spirit pervades our camp and program.
Pipestone is not a required program. it is offered, as part of the
overall summer camp program, to be utilized by the Scout if he so desires. Any coercion to
participate is detrimental to its values. Coercion and peer pressure are not necessary to
make the program function. The requirements have been structured so as to appeal to the
Scouts strictly on their own merits. It is something that should attract and interest the
majority of Scouts and, at the same time, be consistent with current Scouting advancement.
Therefore, Scouts who work to earn the five years of Pipestone are also being encouraged
toward orderly advancement in rank.
Unit leaders should make sure that each member of the unit
understands the Camp Honor requirements and is given the opportunity to participate.
Early Monday, scouts begin the adventure of qualifying to sit in
the Council Ring of the Honor Camper. On Friday evening, those who qualify climax the
adventure. Finally, those who achieve the Fifth Year Camp Honor become members of the
camping alumni who are devoted to the ideals for which Pipestone stands and to the Buckeye
Council Camp Program.

merit badges in a week's time that at summer camp. here is list of the 37 merit badges
